Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls - Sydney - December 4 2024

I had hoped to have been further back, against one of the side walls where the sound would have been better and I’d be out of the way of the crowd going crazy. But as soon as I entered the Crowbar I knew that I’d have to be against the barrier if I wanted to be able to get any video at all. The place was packed with diehard Frank Turner fans, the vast majority of them proudly wearing their Frank Turner T-shirts. I was in for a wild night and a videoing challenge. So I limited myself to far fewer songs than when I last saw him, some of the ‘quieter’ numbers, where the speaker distortion wouldn't be too bad and I might be able to hold my camera steady against the surging crowd behind me: Recovery (00:25) Photosynthesis (04:13) Letters (09:20) If Ever I Stray (12:47) Mittens (16:17) Get Better (20:29) They played a total of 18 songs. I would have liked to have heard a couple more off the new album (after all, it was the Undefeated Tour) but it was a good selection from the past 16 years. Yes, it was hot, but it was great to see Frank and the band up close in a small, independent venue, in front of a crowd who knew all the words. This is what live music should be all about.
