Description

During the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020 one of my oldest buds, Heath (Midtown/Senses Fail) and I started covering songs together. Early on during this pandemic my mental state began to deteriorate rapidly. Like most extroverts, I was fucking lost being stuck at home alone. I posted an instagram story playing Adam Sandler’s “Somebody Kill Me” from the Wedding Singer and got a message from my old buddy Heath complimenting me on it. We decided to try to do some covers from different corners of the country. 1800 miles was not gonna stop us.....not with high speed internet available. Heath resides in Westwood, New Jersey while I’m soaking up the sun in Austin, Texas. But, for those that need more of a back story to our friendship, I met Heath around 20 years ago. We played together while he was in Midtown and I was in Dig*Doug and then TooYoung The Hero. We became close friends instantly. It’s impossible to not be drawn to a guy like Heath. Everyone loves him, and for good reason. He is just a really good dude. Anyways, haha, although we both were a bit rusty, Heath is an incredible musician and can seem to play anything I throw at him with ease. I’m nowhere near his level, but he has always been a big cheerleader for me, and always pushing me to try harder. You can tell the confidence grows a lot from the first songs to the most recent as we got back in the swing of things. Most of the tracks were ones that were popular around the time we were touring. A lot of the songs we used to play together in the van, sitting around waiting at venues, and broke down on the side of the road. Several of the songs we learned just for this project. We each hand picked these songs that meant a lot to us at some point along the way. Some of these songs I had never heard before, and had a couple days to learn them before we recorded them. Same with Heath. We tried to keep it as raw and simple as possible. Spotify playlist of possible songs. FaceTime. Recording strictly with iPhones. Synced up in my video editing program. One take to try to get it right. A lot of them aren’t perfect, and that’s fine. Some of them came out WAY better than either of us could’ve hoped for. At any result, they have been SO MUCH FUN TO DO. They make me smile and I hope that if you’ve watched them, they make you smile too. If you took the time, thank you for watching, and thank you for listening. Isn’t music amazing??
